Lemmings 2: The Tribes was the first true sequel to Lemmings. It was developed by DMA Design, and published by Psygnosis. Lemmings 2 was released in 1993 for a majority of computers, Nintendo consoles, and Sega consoles. albeit not as many as the original Lemmings.


The Great Darkness threatens the lives of 12 Lemmings tribes, who must bring together their individual Talisman pieces and escape their once peaceful home.


Players are presented with a set number of lemmings, whom fall out of door like portals. It is your task to assign Skills to your lemmings and solve the various puzzling landscapes, traverse tricky traps, and ultimately lead the lemmings to the Exit Portal within each level.

Lemmings 2 includes 51 new and returning skills for the lemmings to utilize. (a maximum of 8 are given to the player per level) They are sorted into 6 categories.

Wind Skills: Lemmings who are affected by the Fan.

Ground Removing Skills: Lemmings who remove part of the ground.

Building Skills: Lemmings who create traversable terrain.

Shooting Skills: Lemmings who fire or launch something.

Movement Skills: Change the way lemmings move.

Misc. Skills: Extraordinary lemming skills


Instead of the difficulty levels, Lemmings 2: The Tribes, has tribes. There are twelve tribes, each one containing ten levels, giving the game a total of 120 levels. The Lemmings 2 demo has four levels which are exclusive to it, even though one is very similar to a level in the full game and has the same name.

Lemmings 2 was composed by Brian Johnston, Raymond Usher, and David Whittaker. While the Gameboy port was composed by Mark Cooksey. The SNES port was composed by Mike Clarke. And the Sega ports where composed by Matt Furniss.
